Game Objective
Slide or tap the tiles so that they appear in numerical order from top to bottom in as few moves, and as quickly as possible. If no numbers are shown on the tiles, you are to complete the photo instead. The missing tile is the one from the lower right hand corner.
Gesture Summary
Slide or tap the tiles.
Shake to Jumble.
Tap anywhere on the green background, or the icon in the lower left corner, to reveal the toolbar.
Pinch in or out to change the game layout.
Rotate device to alter between portrait and landscape layouts.
How to begin a New Game
Shake your device to jumble the tiles and start a new game with the current layout and photo. The amount of shaking required is a quick, sudden movement (like a vigorous salt shaking.) It’s enough to avoid accidental bumps, but not too much that you’re arm will end up sore! You can also select “Jumble” or “Random” from the toolbar.
Game Over
When all of the tiles are in order, the game is over. A summary of the game is then shown. It will reveal how many moves you’ve made, as well as the time it took you to complete the puzzle. It also shows you the high scores for that same layout (e.g. 3x4 tiles), if you didn’t obtain a high score. You can tap anywhere to close the summary.
High Score
A high score is achieved when you’ve completed a game of the same layout (e.g. 3x4 tiles) with either the least number of tile moves, the fastest time, or both. You’ll also obtain a high score if you’re the first one to play a game of that layout. The fireworks animation only appears if you’ve attained both the least moves and the fastest time.
Game Layout
Pinch in or out to change the game’s layout of rows and columns. You can pinch vertically (which changes the number of rows), pinch horizontally (which changes the number of columns) or you can pinch diagonally (which changes both rows and columns at the same time.) Each pinch increases or decreases the game layout by one row or column (or both if you’ve pinched diagonally.) A new game is started with each pinch.
The minimum layout is 3x3 and the maximum is 7x7.
The game can be played portrait or landscape. When you rotate your device, the game adjusts the tile sizes appropriately so that the current game will fit on screen. When you start a new game, the dimensions will swap to provide the largest tile sizes possible. For example, if you were playing a layout of 3x4 in landscape, and rotated to portrait, a new game would become 4x3.
Quitting the Game
When you quit the game, or are interrupted by a phone call, the current game in progress is paused (i.e. the game’s timer is paused and the layout saved) until you return to Puzzle Classic. You can therefore start and finish a game at different times of the day. If the current game was solved when you quit, a new game will automatically be started upon your return to Puzzle Classic.
